Enter these cheats in any time during gameplay. You cannot be in a window for choosing stuff, though. For the messages, look for it to appear in the text box in the lower-right-hand corner of the screen. I do not believe that you have to be in a specific scenario for this to take effect. When you type what's in the "Code" column you get that effect

D	with scenario password, enter Debug mode. Monsters don't move while in combat and die in one hit. However, you will recieve no gold or experience.
